The Fifth BRICS Sherpas/Sous-Sherpas meeting started yesterday, 27 November 2024, in Ekaterinburg under the Chairship of the Russian Federation. During the opening session, H.E. Mr. Sergey Ryabkov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Sherpa in BRICS, summarized this year’s main activities and achievements of BRICS in its three pillars: Policy and Security; Economic and Finance as well as People to People/Humanitarian. The adoptions of BRICS Kazan Summit Declaration and the BRICS Partner Country Model, the convening of BRICS Foreign Ministers and National Security Advisors meetings, along with the Parliamentary and Business Forums were highlighted in the Sherpa’s remarks. All participants expressed their deep appreciation and thanked the Russian Federation for the able leadership it has demonstrated and the progress made in forging cooperation across issues of global importance, including strengthening multilateralism, reforming global governance and using national currencies among BRICS countries in trade. H.E. Ambassador Minelik Alemu, Special Policy Advisor of the Minister of Foreign led the Ethiopian delegation.
